Gandhinagar : Hours before the all important Surat rally of the Aam Aadmi Party(AAP), the Delhi police moved in to arrest it’s Gujarat in-charge, Gulab Singh.
Kejriwal and his party had to seek judicial intervention to cut through the impediments put by the Vijay Rupani led BJP government in the state to organize the Surat public meeting but found it’s spirits bolstered by the support from the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) whose cause it has been espousing along with that of the warring dalits in Gujarat.
The Gujarat police was hesitant to give permission to Kejriwal’s public rally in Surat but was forced to do so after AAP approached the Gujarat High.
Ahead of his arrest,Singh presented himself before the newly appointed Surat police commissioner,Satish Sharma even as the Delhi Police team armed with a non-bailable arrest warrant issued just two days ago to take him into custody.
“This is Amit Shah at his vindictive best trying desperately to disrupt our Surat rally but you can see things for yourself,” he added.
“Do such extortion charges against an MLA and warrants have to come up just before such rallies in the BJP president’s home state,” questioned an AAP leader.
Before presenting himself to the Surat police commissioner, Singh told reporters that charges against him were baseless.
“I am in Surat since six days. But it is on the day of rally that Delhi Police has arrived in Surat to arrest me. ” said Singh.
