800 bankers join nationwide strike; transaction of crores hit

Ujjain : Business transaction amounting to Rs 25 to 30 crore was on Friday badly affected as about 800 officers and employees of all the 22 city branches of nationalised banks joined the nationwide strike called by United Forum of Bank Unions.

 The agitating bank employees assembled at the Tower Chowk in the morning and took out a rally to observe the strike. Carrying placards and banners, they raised slogans against bank reforms, privatisation, merger of banks and other issues. A meeting was also held on the occasion in which the speakers lashed out at the Union government for ruining the nationalised banks. They also resolved to maintain the public sector status of the banks and to struggle for the cause.

 Those expressed views in the meeting included United Forum convener US Chhabra, Hanumant Shinde, Pramod Mantri, Mukesh Neem, Narinh Inani, Keshav Pandya, Ravindra Jethwa, Sunil Jain, Anil Mehta, Sandeep Pal, Gopal Nigam, CM Ghatiya, DK Rawal, Kailash Dekate, Santosh Rao, Ambikaprasad Urai, Santosh Nagar, Rajni Tare, Anita Gupta, Abha Bhadoria, Anita Jain, Ram Tyagi, Prashant Sohale, Acharya Satyam and Hemant Shrivastava.
