Change is the only constant! Bollywood and politics are the two industries, both full with drama. We all know that there are celebrities who turned chose to leave the glamorous world behind and join politics. The shift from on-screen roles to life in public service has been marked by several celebrities. Ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha elections, we imagine three Bollywood superstars whom India will probably accept as the next Prime Minister.
Amitabh Bachchan has a strong connection with politics. No, it’s not about his actor-turned-politician wife Jaya Bachchan. Well, in 1984 Big B had contested for a Lok Sabha seat from Allahabad constituency and had won by 68.2 percent votes, one of the highest victory margins in general election history. Not to forget his relationship with former Indian Prime Minister and his friend Rajiv Gandhi. But within two years in politics, he resigned as his name surfaced in the Bofors scandal. The actor, however, maintains, that the reason behind his quit was people’s questions over his harmless social service. Fast forward, coming in 2016. The year when President Pranab Mukherjee had a year to complete his term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mr. Bachchan’s meet made headlines. Amar Singh, ex-leader of Samajwadi Party and a former close aide of the Bachchan family revealed that PM is considering proposing Mr. Bachchan for the next President of India. In an interview actor BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha was quoted saying, “It will be a matter of pride if Amitabh Bachchan, a cultural icon, is made President of the country. He has achieved many a milestone in cultural and social fields and if he becomes president, it will fetch a good name for the country.”
We say, though his first inning in politics didn’t fare well or even his name for the next President didn’t work out. All we can do is hope he thinks of his second inning in politics.
Though Akshay Kumar cannot be the Prime Minister of India as he has taken Canadian citizenship (while he claims dual citizenship). But recently there were reports of Akshay Kumar to essay the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his biopic. The makers of the film is not revealed yet. Talking about it former Chairman of Central Board of Film Certification, Pahlaj Nihalani in an interview to DNA says, “I can’t think of anyone better to play our Prime Minister than Akshay. He has a spotless image of an idealist and visionary. And look at the kind of work he’s doing. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Padman are the cinema of social reform that Guru Dutt and V Shantaram were associated with. Also, Akshay has risen from humble working class beginnings to become a national star, just like Modiji. We are certainly looking at a strong possibility of Akshay playing Modiji.”
All we can say is whether he plays Narendra Modi or not, Mr Khiladi has the right image to portray this role, for that matter any roles, in conviction.
Amid speculation of superstar Rajinikanth joining politics, he attended the 75th-anniversary celebration of DMK’s mouth piece Murasoli in Chennai. Recently, he also indicated his intention of joining politics. He is likely to launch his own party and make an alliance with the BJP, which is trying to make its position strong in South India. It is also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rajinikanth enjoy a personal rapport.
All we can say is the man, known as thalaivar to his legions of doting fans, may join politics or not. He is Rajinikanth and he can do anything. Mind it!
