29 firms booked for violating norms during drive by weights & measures department

Ujjain: At least 29 firms in the city have been found to be using defective weighing systems and instruments, violating the Madhya Pradesh Weights and Measurement Act. These firms were booked following a massive drive launched by the weight and measures department with an eye on the festive season.

Ujjain assistant controller, weights and measures, SS Sikarwar, said cases have been registered against these firms. The inspection team has been targeting sweets, hardware, jewellery, utensil and kirana shops and checking on their weighing and measuring instruments.

Weights of packaged goods are being strictly scrutinised. According to reliable sources, about 220 business organisation have been inspected.
