Indore: As many as 22 structures, including residential and commercial establishments, alongside a stretch between Patnipura and Malwa Mills Squares were demolished by a joint team of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) and police on Wednesday to widen the road.
Armed with poclain and JCB machines, about 100 members of removal gang accompanied by police reached Patinipura Square and started demolition drive. All the hurdles before road widening project were razed.
“A total of 22 structures, including houses and shops, were demolished at Patnipura,” deputy commissioner Mahendra Singh Chouhan said. About two years ago, the IMC had demolished structures alongside a stretch between Patnipura and Malwa Mills Square.
But some structures were left out as their owners had moved Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court and managed to obtain stay on the demolition drive. Recently, the court vacated the stay after which the IMC had issued notices to the petitioners asking them to vacate their structures proving hurdles before road widening project.
“Some persons had voluntarily knocked down their structures and those who had not done the needful had to face demolition drive by IMC on Wednesday,” Chouhan said.
