Mumbai: Khar Police have registered a case of stalking and extortion against two men, who allegedly posted lewd pictures of a Pali Hill resident and demanded Rs 1 crore from her. A case was registered on Sunday evening and police have formed three teams to nab the accused.
A 32-year-old woman, working with Help Care foundation, started receiving lewd messages on social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube. She ignored the messages until the accused sent her a video link, where a morphed photo of hers was used in a pornographic movie.
After sending her this link, the accused began to send her messages demanding Rs 1 crore. The series of threats and extortion calls went on from December 5-23. Finally, the woman approached Khar Police on Sunday and registered a case against the accused men.
The duo has been identified as Yusuf Shaikh alias Chirag and Trayatik Jadhav. Sanjay More, senior police inspector of Khar police station said, “The two accused threatened the complainant claiming that they were aides of gangster Dawood Ibrahim. However, we think this is just a ploy.”
Khar Police have booked the duo under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to stalking (Section 354D), extortion (Section 384), criminal intimidation (Section 506B), word or gesture intended to insult modesty of a woman (Section 509) and common intention (Section 34). Police teams have also fanned out in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, as the accused had used bouncing Internet Protocol (IP) addresses to avert identification.
