Bhayandar : 24 hours after the office of a Mira Road-based developer was ransacked, sleuths of the Thane (rural) police on Wednesday arrested 14 activists of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s (MNS) local unit including two women for their involvement in the crime.
A mob of 20-22 MNS workers had stormed into the office of construction company Raj Realty in Shanti Nagar area of Mira Road on Tuesday afternoon, going on a rampage destroying furniture, pelting stones, smashing computers and other electronic equipments. The entire act of brazen violence was caught on the CCTV cameras installed in the office premises.
The owner of the construction company, in his complaint, has alleged that some goons in an attempt to encroach upon their property in the Vijay Park area of Kashimira had illegally installed a MNS newspaper reading stand while MNS city chief Arun Kadam claimed it to be nothing but a spontaneous reaction by his party cadres in response to the builder’s non-forgiving act of dumping our party flag along with the banners carrying the photo of their Saheb (Raj Thackeray).
“They removed the stand, no problem, but they dared to dump our flags and banners in garbage. How do you expect us to tolerate such a grave insult to our revered leader,” Kadam said.
While a case of rioting has been registered against the arrested accused, a hunt is still on to nab their six accomplices police said.
