10 cops suspended for inmates party in Tumsar jail

Bhandara: In a shocking incident, an inmate in Tumsar jail in Bhandara district celebrated his birthday by holding a party in the jail. He is one of the prime accused in the killing of a youth last month.

According to jail sources such a celebration cannot be held without the knowledge of the jailer and constabulary present in the prison.

The accused were arrested for the killing of Hemant Uke and were kept in Tumsar jail. The celebration was shot on a cellphone and the video and photographs were circulated widely, which went viral across all social media platforms. Interestingly, these also were circulated to the senior officials and was brought to their notice. They took serious cognisance of this incidence immediately and initiated an enquiry in this incident. The enquiry pointed towards 10 policemen who were involved in allowing this incident to take place. They were suspended on Wednesday with immediate effect.

On Janaury 30 Hemant Uke, a youth was killed cold bloodedly in broad daylight. The accused prashant Gabhane, Ashish Gajbiye, Santosh Dahat and Satish Dahat were the suspected accused and were arrested by Tumsar police.

As seen in the photos and video the police officials from Tumsar police station and the constables present in the jail are seen to cheer and cut the cake with the accused in Uke’s murder. The police are seen to celebrate along with the accused. Initially when the news of this incident made rounds the police involved have refuted the allegations. However, the decision to suspend them on Wednesday proves that the allegations were true. The court had given police custody to accused in Uke’s murder till February 7.

After the four accused were brought to the Tumsar jail, they celebrated Prashant Gabhane’s birthday inside the jail. His accomplices and family ensured that they sent a cake, mithai, snacks, and other eatables inside the police station. This incident has created quite a stir in the Maharashtra police circle.
