WhatsApp tech helps cops nab absconding fraudster!

Bhayandar : Tech-savvy mobile applications seem to have become the new faceless informers of the police. This came to light after a witty cop from the Thane (Rural) police nabbed a conman three years after he absconded after duping home seekers in Mira Road.

Hyder Ali Batliwala (61), the accused, had floated Z K Property Consultancy, an estate agency firm in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road in 2010. Hyder lured home seekers under the pretext of offering cheap flats and accepted huge amounts as additional money.
However, in November, 2010, he suddenly shut shop and disappeared leaving the home seekers in a lurch. A complaint was registered against Hyder by Syed Ali Imam, one of the victims. After the police failed to make a breakthrough, the case was closed.
However, PI ( Crime), Arun Nikam, recently reopened the case and initiated a fresh probe.
And with the help of a photograph uploaded by the fugitive on WhatsApp- a mobile chat application- Nikam and his team tracked Hyder to his current location at a residential complex in Navi-Mumbai.
“As of now six victims claiming a total loss of Rs 24.50 lakh have registered FIRs against the accused,” informed Nikam, who has appealed to other victims to come forward and lodge their complaints.
Meanwhile, a case under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC has been registered against Hyder who has been sent to judicial custody by the District Sessions Court, Thane.
