Chennai: Responding to representations from farmers in Cuddalore district in north Tamil Nadu and some neighbouring areas, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has ordered release of water from Veeranam lake for irrigation from August 27.  This would help to irrigate 44,856 acres of farmland in Cuddalore district and in the taluks of Chidambaram and Kattumannarkoil. The Chief Minister also ordered release of water for irrigation from the Tirumurthi dam from Sunday to irrigate 96,854 acres of land in Tirupur and Coimbatore districts.
