As TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has given a deadline to cable networks for implementing new rule regarding tariffs and prices, a total of 332 channels have declared their prices. TRAI has kept December 29, 2018 as the deadline by which all DTH and cable networks will have to bring their channels according to the new TRAI order.
According to the latest pricing of channels, Star India seems to be the costliest network among all, followed by Zee and Sony. Moreover, Zee Group has the highest number of pay channels, including both entertainment and news channels. Zee Group is closely followed by Star India and TV18 groups.
DD Free Dish, however, is unaffected by the new TRAI rule and is exempted from all the tariffs for now. The country’s only free DTH service is exempted from the ruling due to the fact that its feed is currently unencrypted. The TRAI tariff order mentions that it is applicable only to addressable systems.
