Torrent Power Ltd has received Gujarat Energy Regulatory Commission’s approval to hike retail tariff by 7.5%, or 44 paise per unit across Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Surat with effect from May.  The tariff hike, which will add 4.49 bln rupees to the company’s annual revenue, is less than the 1.22-rupee-per-unit hike that the company had sought from the regulator.

Hike in power tariff includes increases in fixed and energy charges of which consumers in below-poverty line category, agriculture category and residential consumers consuming power up to 50 units per month are spared.
