Japanese delegation calls on Assembly Speaker

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal on Thursday received Hideaki Takeuchi, the Speaker of Japan’s Kanagawa Prefectural Assembly, at his chambers in the Secretariat. Takeuchi was accompanied by other members of his prefectural assembly and officials from the Japanese Consulate in Chenai. The Japanese delegation earlier met with Industries Minister P Mohan and then interacted with Dhanapal. The Speaker, in his opening speech, listed the various achievements of the Jayalalithaa-led government. He underscored the State government’s spending on various welfare schemes, listing PDS rice distribution, distribution of mixies, grinders and fans to women without cost, provision of marriage assistance to poor girls, cash compensation to fishermen during the fishing ban period, construction of 60000 solar powered green houses for the poor, poverty reduction measures, free electricity for agriculturists and other as being among the noteworthy schemes of the State government. “A total sum of `30331 crore, nearly 30 percent of the total budget, has been allotted this year for social security net and welfare schemes,” he added.
