Mumbai: Positive macro-economic data points increased hopes of a rate cut and buoyed a barometer index of the Indian equity markets to close in the positive territory on Thursday after three days of continued losses this week.

The barometer 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) closed 37 points up provisionally on the hopes of a proposed special session of parliament to pass crucial economic legislations.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also closed in the green. It gained 26.70 points provisionally or 0.32 percent at 8,376.15 points.
