Mumbai: The rupee weakened by 15 paise to quote at 67.26 against the dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today on increased demand for the American currency from importers and banks amid a lower opening in the domestic equity market.

The dollar was firm against some global currencies which also weighed on the rupee, dealers said. Yesterday, the local currency ended 6 paise lower at 67.11 a dollar on fag-end demand for the US dollar from banks and importers on the back of higher greenback in the overseas market. Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex fell by 60.95 points or 0.25 per cent to 24,743.33 in early trade.
