Mumbai : Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, the telecom subsidiary of Reliance Industries Ltd, has registered a police complaint at a police station in Navi Mumbai, alleging unlawful access to its systems by unknown persons, a police officer said.
On Thursday, personal details of around 120 mln RJio customers were allegedly leaked on a public website.
The leaked data appeared on public website magikapk.com, which sported a search bar where one could enter an RJio subscriber’s mobile number to retrieve their name, e-mail address, circle, subscriber identification module card activation date and time, and Aadhaar number.
The company told CNBC-TV18 that it had come across unverified and unsubstantiated claims of data breach and had informed law enforcement agencies about these.
The Navi Mumbai police had already been acting on the complaint registered by one of RJio’s customers. A case has been registered under the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act.
The police was currently investigating various suspects in this regard and had made an arrest in Rajasthan, a senior police inspector told Cogencis.
CNBC TV-18 reported that the Navi Mumbai police had also seized 50 subscriber identification module cards and a laptop from the accused. RJio did not respond to a query from Cogencis. Today, shares of RIL closed up 1.1% at 1,511.10 rupees on the National Stock Exchange.
