While addressing shareholders at 40th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Reliance Industries, Chairman Mukesh Ambani got emotional, remembering his late father, Dhirubhai Ambani. Mukesh’s mother Kokilaben Ambani too burst into tears.

Mukesh Ambani said, “I want to dedicate these 40 years of achievements and records to only one person, to our founder chairman Shri Dhirubhai Ambani.” Ambani looked back at the last 40 years of Reliance and spoke on how the revenues of the organisation grew from Rs 70 crore in 1977 to over Rs 3 lakh crore today. He also announced that the net profit of RIL has risen 10,000 times in the past 40 years from Rs 3 crore in 1977 to Rs 30,000 crore in 2016-2017.

Meanwhile, Mukesh himself also got emotional seeing his mother in tears. Thanking his mother for her support Mukesh said, “All through these 40 years I am grateful to my mother Shrimati Kokilaben Ambani.” With claps, the audience in the hall also stood up when Mukesh was talking about his father and mother. They (audience) also chanted “We love Jio….We love Jio.” Mukesh today launched the much awaited Reliance Jio phone, which he dubbed as Jio phone, and priced it at an effective rate of zero. Jio will take Rs 1500 security deposit and it will be refunded when customer returns the phone after 3 years.

Dhirubhai used to say if you made a phone call cheaper than a postcard, you would be revolutionise the lives of millions of Indians. Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance has made phone call free, and handsets cheaper than a postcard. That’s what was announced at the AGM.
