ONGC topples RIL as top energy firm

New Delhi: State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has edged past Reliance Industries to become the highest ranked Indian energy firm on this year’s Platts Global 250 Rankings.  ONGC, which in 2013 was ranked 22nd, improved one position in this year’s ranking that is led by global giants Exxon Mobil Corp, Chevron and Royal Dutch Shell.  RIL, India’s largest private firm, slipped from 19th rank in 2013 to 22nd in this year’s ranking, according to Platts.  Indian Oil Corp, the nation’s largest oil refiner and fuel marketing firm, made a huge jump to break into top 50 global energy firms club.
