Several taxpayers and others have been complaining about the technical glitches faced on the new Income Tax (I-T) portal. Recently, the shareholders of Infosys, who are also taxpayers, have raised problems the website is facing. To these shareholders, information technology (IT) giant, who is the company behind the latest I-T portal, said that it is committed to resolve these glitches in coming weeks.
The new portal was introduced by the Finance Ministry on June 7, 2021. Since then, many people have been complaining about the issues faced on the new website. According to NDTV, at the company's 40th annual general meeting held on Saturday Infosys' chief operating officer (COO) UB Pravin Rao said that the company is concerned about the inconvenience being faced by users, and will try to address the problems of crores of taxpayers.
"We are deeply concerned at the initial inconvenience being faced by users because of the e-filing portal and are committed to resolve the issues at the earliest within the next few weeks on the basis of all the feedback received from people," Rao stated.
Despite all the complaints, close to one lakh users have managed to file their returns so far through the website.
Rao informed shareholders that Infosys has been working with Indian government for a long time.
On June 8, a day after the new website was launched, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman asked Infosys and its Chairman Nandan Nilekani to fix technical glitches being encountered on the I-T’s new e-filing website, after users flooded her Twitter timeline with complaints. Responding to Sitharaman's call to attend to the complaints of the taxpayers regarding issues on the newly launched ITR e-filing portal, Nilekani said that the company regrets the initial glitches and is working to resolve the issues.
Infosys has developed the next-generation income tax filing system to reduce processing time for returns from 63 days to one day and expedite refunds.
The software major had also developed the government's GST Network (GSTN) portal, used for GST payment and return filing, which had also faced initial glitches.
