Mumbai: Deepak Parekh, Chairman of HDFC, released senior journalist RN Bhaskar’s book ‘GAME INDIA – Seven Strategic Advantages That Can Steer India to Wealth’ in a function organised by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) in Mumbai, on Thursday. This launch was followed by a panel discussion.
Moderated by CNBC TV18’s Executive Editor Latha Venkatesh, the discussants in the panel were Mukund Rajan, Corporate strategist and former and only Brand Custodian of Tata Group; Ajit Ranade, Chief Economist, Aditya Birla Group; RN Bhaskar, the book’s author and Consulting Editor; and Dhaval Desai, Vice President, ORF.
In this book, the diverse aspects of India’s economy are explained in the most lucid, anecdotal and almost a storytelling manner. The book is critical of what has gone wrong in the country in the past 70 years and is also one of the most hopeful and forward looking accounts of what can go right if handled well.
“India is at the tipping point in its growth trajectory. It is already a USD two trillion-plus economy which is expected to grow to five trillion over the next five years. Bhaskar’s book and the seven potential advantages identified by him will play a critical role in India’s growth – not just to a USD five trillion economy, but for a long way into the future,” said Parekh.
Game India presents seven diverse yet interwoven strategic advantages and explores what has been done or (not done) thus far to exploit them and what potential they hold out for people and how they could redefine the game for India. At once ambitious and engaging, the book does an in-depth study of what these seven unrealised opportunities India can pursue to emerge as a true power to this 21st century.
The seven advantages Bhaskar talks about are solar power; coastline and waterways; milk; agriculture; huge population that, among other things, can yield methane; innovation; and unleashing human potential through education, justice and health.
The book, which is published by Penguin Random House India, is priced at Rs 499.
