Welcoming of Lord Ganesha will be done in a unique way by the Thanawalas residents at Fanaswadi, Girgaum in Mumbai. Every year the family, during this festival, avails the opportunity to spread a socially relevant message and this year them is Anti-Tobacco. Up till now, Gutka and Paan Masaala are banned only in 13 states, but the time has come when the a message has to be conveyed to the Central Government to ban such carcinogenic products across the nation, and not select states. The decorations during this Ganesh festival will revolve around spreading awareness of the ill effects of tobacco consumption. Taking a clue from Mythology when Lord Krishna killed a snake from the river and made poisonous water consumable, similarly Lord Ganesha will be seen dancing on the Snake of Tobacco with its tail – like a cigarette with a Gutka pouch on head. His vahaan – mouse will be shown breaking a Cigarette. All the devotees will be welcomed with a banner reading “Welcome To No Tobacco Zone”.
