NEW DELHI : In an effort to decongest roads and reduce pollution in its vicinity, the Jawahar Lal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) board on Thursday decided to offer a waiver of Rs 728 per container towards handling charges if moved by rail to and from the Inland Container Depot at Mulund.
A Shipping Ministry press note said the Mulund depot is strategically located and accessible by both road and rail to the catchment area around Mumbai and the trade will get encouraged to shift to the rail mode for faster clearance of their goods that were getting stuck at the port. The JNPT will provide CONCOR rakes to shift the containers to rail rakes.
Similar waiver has been granted to three Container Freight Stations — Navkar, CWC and DRT — on Exim containers which have either arrived through dedicated rakes or moved out through dedicated rakes placed on JNPT lines.
