Hero MotoCorp profit rises on higher sales

Mumbai : Two-wheeler major Hero MotoCorp posted a 4.3 per cent rise in net profit to Rs805 crore during the quarter ended December 2017 on the back of higher sales particularly in its scooter segment.

The company had posted a net profit of Rs 772 crore in the year-ago period.

Revenue from operations were up 5.9 per cent at Rs 7,305 crore during the quarter. Revenue from operations in the year-ago period included excise duty, while that for October-December excluded goods and services tax, and hence is not strictly comparable. The revenue from operations, excluding excise duty, rose 14.78 per cent on year.

Total expenditure during the quarter was at Rs 6,287 crore compared with Rs 5,945 crore a year ago. Operating margin of the company shrank to 15.90 per cent in the December quarter from 16.90 per cent in the same period a year ago. The company’s tax payment was at Rs 323 crore as against Rs 313 crore a year ago.

In the previous quarter, the company’s net profit was at Rs 1,010 crore, on revenue from operations of Rs 8,362 crore.
