New Delhi: Dabur India Ltd has become the first domestic FMCG company to use the country’s Inland Waterways for container movement by sending its first consignment through the newly inaugurated National Inland Waterway today. Dabur will be shipping its range of fruit-based beverages from Varanasi to Kolkata through this newly launched water route.

Dabur India Ltd Executive Director-Operations Mr. Shahrukh Khan said, “We are excited to be a part of this mega project that will not only save cost but also create faster routes for sending consignments. It is also an environment-friendly means of transportation, especially for cargo movement, which will not only redefine the consumer goods industry but also lead to creation of jobs for many.”

National Waterway-1 is an inland water transport route between Haldia in West Bengal to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh which was recently launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The IWAI vessel, MV Rabindranath Tagore that PM Modi received in Varanasi was the first container movement on an inland waterway in India since Independence. The vessel transported 16 containers equivalent to 16 truckloads of food and snacks from Kolkata to Varanasi. On its return journey, it will carry 17 Metric Tonnes of fruit-based beverages from Dabur India Ltd.

“Dabur believes that this is a new step toward economic development as it would ease traffic pressure on roads and help cut logistic costs. This transportation system is a big boost for India’s Infrastructure, which would benefit several states like Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar,” Mr. Khan said.
