Coal scam: Court sends Rungtas to jail for four years

New Delhi: A Patiala House Court on Monday sentenced Jharkhand Ispat Private Limited Directors R. S. Rungta and R.C. Rungta to four years imprisonment in connection with a coal scam case pertaining to the allotment of coal block.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs. five lakh each against the convict and a fine of Rs. 25 lakh on the company.

JIPL and its directors were accused of acquiring the coal block through false documents.

The court had on March 21 last year framed charges against them for the alleged offences punishable under Sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) read with 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) and 471 (using a forged document as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
