NEW DELHI: National carrier Air India has invited bids from prospective lessors for sale and leaseback of five Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, according to a tender posted on the airline’s website. These aircraft were delivered to Air India between August 2013 and January 2014. The bid closes at 1600 IST on Jul 7, the document said. The cash-strapped carrier is seeking to rent the planes for 12 years, with an option to extend the term.
The sale and leaseback agreements for the first seven aircraft have already been concluded. According to Air India, the deal will be supported by a government guarantee that will cover lease rental obligations during the lease term.
