Even as the Budget has reached out to the middle class and farmers ahead of the general elections, it held no pleasant surprises for the educationists. In fact, education is almost absent from the major announcements in what was described by News 18 as ‘sops opera.’ Possibly because, the powers that be feel ‘education is never a poll issue’ and hence gets brushed aside.
In fact, cows got more importance than even workers in the unorganised sector. The government has allotted Rs 750 crore for the welfare of the cows. On the other hand, Rs 500 crore has been allocated for the pension scheme for workers. While presenting the last budget of PM Modi’s tenure on Friday, Union Minister Piyush Goyal was at his idiomatic best when he declared: “Gau mata ke samman mein yeh sarkar kabhi peeche nahi hategi (This government will never shy away from protecting the mother cow).” With this sentiment in mind, a Cow Commission has been also announced.
