Nirmala Sitharaman - Finance Minister of India

The Budget 2019 presented today by India's first full-time woman Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made some significant announcements for women.

The budget brought light on women empowerment, by proposing to set a committee for the same. She mentioned that there is not a single segment where women have not contributed.

Encouraging the women self-help groups (SHG), Sitharaman announced the expansion of the interest subvention programme to all districts.

Every woman SHG member having a verified Jan Dhan account will get an overdraft facility of Rs 5,000, it was announced. There was also an announcement on a Rs 1,00,000 loan for women under the Mudra scheme.

BJP, in their poll manifesto, promised to provide collateral-free credit of up to Rs 50 lakh for entrepreneurs, out of which 50% of the loan amount will be guaranteed towards female entrepreneurs.
