Chandi Perera

My favourite book is ‘Devil Wears Prada’ by Lauren Weisberger. I like the book because I relate to it in many ways. Not that I ever had a devil-like boss! Somehow I feel that I appreciate a boss like that… who would push at anything to get top results. I felt that I knew Andrea Sachs character closely… having to wear a second skin at work! Don’t we all do it, when we have to? Honestly, it made me re-think every time, someone pushed me for better results. Once I was working on a stage play, and I had to learn the Kenyan accent. I had no idea how to, because, neither an accent coach was teaching Kenyan, nor did I know any Kenyan. This was in Sydney, and I thought my director was being a little too pushy over this, specially, given that the only place I could locate a Kenyan was the Kenya embassy! Somehow I managed to find a tourist, and tried my best to pick his accent. At the end I was really happy that my director made me go through the process. I would definitely recommend the book to your readers. It’s a great fiction! It’s one of those stories that you can get yourself immersed in, quite entertaining, actually.

Favourite fictional character/ historical personality, I would love to meet…

She is not fictional, but a very real person. I would have loved to meet Coco channel! I have a whole lot of admiration for her zest for life and her relentless work standards. Life was no bed of roses for her, however, her vision kept her moving in the right direction, one step at a time. When you can’t even see the light at the end of the tunnel, one requires heaps of faith to keep your ambitions alive, but, she did it!

Chandi Perera is Miss Sri Lanka

and an actress. She was seen

playing in cameo in last year’s hit movie ‘Grand Masti’.
