Though the language used is good and words have been chosen tastefully, spelling mistakes or confusion about the usage of a verb or a noun on several occasions could be avoided. At a place, the author seemed confused in using an apostrophe. Ideas mentioned in this corporate guide if followed seriously will prove suicidal, or it will be career suicide if one even tries to implement the ideas.
The Mumbai-based writer has himself spent years in the corporate world under various capacities and worked in the middle management as well as senior executive including AVP, VP, SVP and CXO before penning the Aisle Be Damned.
The book, Job Be Damned teaches its readers most of the things that an MNC employee already knows, depending upon his designation and experience of working in the multinational companies. How to procrastinate work, how to shift blame, how to kill time in the name of attending numerous meetings, how to manipulate colleagues and get your work done, how to manipulate figures, be it sales or profits, you just need to prove yourself right, and how to do it, the book has it all. Whether it will actually work for you is doubtful.
The former international banker and sales and marketing executive, what the author is, inform of various tricks one can apply to get ahead or stay glued in a company. He tries to hold the interest of the reader by using food, wine, sex and everything that a corporate job offers. You may get irritated while reading a few pages and feel like throwing the book out of the window, especially when you are told the tricks to “deceive” your boss at the time of appraisal.
It will make you feel like you are watching a B-grade movie about 100 ways to get a pink slip, and this is what exactly the title says, Job Be Damned. However, the language used is good and use of phrases is taken care of. At one place he’s mentioned “eff off”, which is actually appreciable. The ideas may put you off, but the language won’t disappoint you. The mistakes must have been corrected.
Whatever it is, we all know that one must work hard if one wants to succeed and climb the success ladder or else one faces setbacks.
