Mumbai : In a bizarre case, a young woman has been arrested by the Pydhonie police for stealing Rs 18 lakh in cash from her own house.

Senior police inspector Deepak Kundal said that the money actually belonged to her father-in-law and it was kept inside the cupboard. When the old man realised that it was missing, he made a complaint at the police station.

However, it came as a surprise to the police when the inquiry showed that it was the daughter-in-law who was responsible for the theft.

“We have arrested her and she is presently in police custody,” he said. However, the officer declined to give her name saying the matter was still under investigation.

When asked the reason for committing the theft in her own house, the officer said that she probably felt that the money would get distributed between other family members and hence decided to steal it.

The police are still trying to find out if the woman committed the crime alone or if others are also involved.
