BHOPAL : Jeev Sewa Sansthan Group of Institutions for women organised a session on Mumbai Dabbawalas on Monday. Dr. Pawan G. Agrawal, Director of the Mumbai Dabbawala Education Centre, delivered a talk on the nuances of delivering a simple lunch with zero error. The session was a great learning experience for the students and professionals aspiring to make a mark in their careers.
The corporate ideals of teamwork, dedication and accuracy were reflected with a whole new perspective for the students as Dr. Agrawal elaborated on the complexities involved in the life of a Mumbai Dabbawala to them.
Dr. Pawan G Agarwal’s session took the audience through the journey, which every Dabbawala undertakes on a routine basis. The presentation explained the mechanism of supply chain management which has helped them to carry forward the 125-year-old legacy. The Dabbawalas works eight to nine hours every day, carrying a load of up to 60-65 kg and travelling around 70 km every day, facing persistent issues related to overcrowded traffic and long distances in Mumbai but still maintaining an error rate of just one in 16 million transactions.
This achievement earned Dabbawalas ‘Six Sigma certification’ and brought them international acclaim. With zero attrition rate and highest customer satisfaction, Dabbawalas have become a case study for many B-schools.
