Women offer loads of suggestions, Sadhna also chips in

BHOPAL : Girls and women participating in the second Mahila Panchayat of state government here frankly put forth their views, complaints and suggestions for betterment of women. One member of ‘Shaurya Dal’ Renu Bhavsar said that members of ‘Shaurya Dal’ the government formed by protecting girls and reducing crimes against women.

“Political leaders phone government officers and police not to take action in case of child marriages. Shorya Dal members tried to stop child marriage but police did not provide protection to them,” she said while conveying her concern to chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and ministers.

Chief Minister’s wife Sadhna Singh also gave a suggestion in writing. Raising concern over rising crimes against women, Ramakant Maheshwari said taxi services having GPRS facility should be provided to women and girls especially in night. Savita Chauhan of Shajapur demanded special court for women related crimes.

Mehrunnisa Siddqui of Chhatarpur said, there should be a separate room at police stations where women can talk to female police officers. Dr Pushpa Vani, Betul, suggested a new policy for providing financial help to meritorious girl students for higher education. A government officer Asha Shukla and Nidhi Patel (Bhopal) demanded two-year child care leave and representation to woman officers in advisory committees.

Sulekha Jain, Preeti Upadhyay and others said the government should provide marketing platform to self help groups for selling their products. Some others demanded that the government should give them supply orders for products like bedsheets and other cloths for government hospitals.

Former public relations officer Uma Bhargava said district administration officials should be sensitised towards the public as the government. She said district officials in Bhopal left children and women in scorching heat in open by demolishing their houses in Kajlikhera. Shivani Dhurve of Shajapur sought safety for staff nurses working in three shifts in hospitals.

Asha Singh of Gwalior said women who worked in campaign against female foeticide should be awarded. A contractual doctor said security should be provided to female doctors posted in PHC.

Sangita of Shajapur said benefits of government schemes did not reach to villages. Puja Patel of Jabalpur said Asha workers were not getting regular payment.

Vinita Tiwari of Indore said the government should plan for rehabilitation of female prisoners. One Manju demanded to put cap on selling of liquor.

Sushma Trivedi said women did not come out from houses after evening in her locality because of six country made liquor shops there. Advocate Kiran Gehlot said there should be law for protection of unmarried girls. In the programme, woman and child development minister Maya Singh put a report on

achievements of her department. Principal secretary JN Kansortiya detailed the schemes and the progress.

Depts to allocate separate funds for women’s welfare

Government departments would now allot separate funds to tasks and schemes to be implemented for women welfare and under the provisions of new state woman policy. The policy, introduced by chief minister, ministers and MLAs, in the programme, contains department wise action plan. Each department will include progress on the plan in its annual report. Woman and child development department will make consolidate report on the basis of execution by each department. State resource centre for women will prepare it. Social and economic database of women will be collected for better policy making. Government departments will form strategy and monitoring system for women related issues.
