Bold politicians do not work for popularity but in public interest

BHOPAL: The Bharatiya Janata Party national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, who, of late, has been targetting the state government, albeit indirectly took another potshot at the government on Saturday.

Vijayvargiya, speaking at a programme organised by Aurobindo Society, said governments should not launch populist schemes but schemes that promote public interest.

Vijayvargiya said if he becomes chief minister and announces waiver of electricity bills then it would please the public but it would not be in public interest. At the same time, if it is announced that electricity bills will be charged as per electricity consumption then it will be a decision in public interest.

Vijayvargiya said courageous politicians take decisions taking public and national interest under consideration while weak politicians take decisions to earn brownie points.

Responding to questions put up by the journalists on Vijayvargiya’s address, the latter said these days politicians worry only about the next elections and that is why they take populist decisions.

He said people alleged that Modi was touring foreign countries after become Prime Minister but he was speaking against terrorism in foreign countries. Vijayvargiya said had Modi lacked spiritual vision, we would have been standing in the dock after surgical strike.

Mentioning the contribution of Maharishi Aurobindo, he said historians did not do justice with Aurobindo. He said positivity is the entrance to spirituality and there are several people in the history, whose contribution was not fully recognized. Vijayvargiya said history should be re-written.

Meanwhile, BJP state unit has distanced itself from Vijayvargiya’s statement. BJP chief spokesman Deepak Vijayvargiya said, “He is quite a senior leader and he must be expressing his personal views”.
