BHOPAL : Department of Higher Education ( DHE) has asked state universities and government colleges to set up research and development coordination cell to monitor research activities, following instructions from minister of state Deepak Joshi’s letter seeking detail of research activities in universities.
DHE said colleges and universities will have form the cell within 15 days and submit compliance report to the parent department. The instructions were given to university registrars and college principals.
Aiming at conducting research and developmental activities in campus round the year, the cell will hold seminar and public multifaculty research journal. At two papers of each teacher will be published in a year, the DHE said. Joshi recently had written order to state universities to submit report on professors’ involvement in research activities with seeking three years’ report, following controversy emerged over proposed amendment in university act. While, the state government proposed amendment in the Act to transfer university professors or send them on deputation, the professors were up in arms against the government, describing the amendment as attack on university’s autonomy.
DHE’s fresh directives regarding the cell have made regulatory system for research activities. HoDs will be part of the cell and one professors will be its head in universities whereas, in colleges, four teachers will be appointed by college principals with one being named as chairman. The cell will promote book writing, identify research area, hold lectures, informing other teachers about patent and copy rights, preparing research projects, generate funds for them and publish research journal at least twice in a year.
