BHOPAL : Higher and Technical Education Minister Uma Shankar Gupta, late in the evening on Tuesday, sat on dharna in the Durga Nagar locality near PCC office after one of his supporters was fired upon. The Minister’s dharna was continuing till the filing of this report.
According to SP (South) Anshuman Singh, BJYM district convener Kuldeep Thakur, 31 was shot at by a history-sheeter Sanni Shastri and his accomplices in the evening. Thakur was celebrating his birthday at his Durga Nagar residence when the assailants, riding on three motor-cycles reached the place. After embracing Thakur and wishing him a happy birthday, Sanni and his accomplices whipped out country-made guns and opened fire. They fired three rounds. The shots were aimed at Thakur. However, none of the bullets hit him. After that the assailants took out rods and swords and attacked those present indiscriminately. A woman and a young man were hurt. Later, the assailants fled from the spot.
Town Inspector, Habibganj Sudhir Arjaria said that Sunni Shastri had been externed from the district and he was facing charges under Arms Act. A case under section 307 of the IPC has been registered against him and his accomplices. Meanwhile Gupta, who was scheduled to visit the house of the BJYM leader on his birthday, reached the place and sat on a dharna. He decided to keep mum and did not answer queries of journalists and police personnel.
