Umaria : Turmeric cultivation is being promoted in more than a dozen villages of districts Morena and Umaria which come under the buffer zone of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. Retired Major BN Singh who is holding the responsibility of promoting turmeric plantation on behalf of HI Destination told that more than twelve farmers agreed to plant turmeric in their farms this year in village Bagdara.
To encourage more and more farmers, seeds, cultivation technique, capital and fertilizers are being provided to them.
A contract has also being signed by them under which they will not have to roam around to sell their crop. The company will purchase all the goods directly from the farmland and will pay five rupees more per kilogram then market rates. The wild animals don’t eat turmeric so the crops are spared by the wrath of them. Turmeric cultivation is being done in those areas which are affected by wild animals.
