Truck with 306 LPG cylinders catches fire near petrol bunk

BHOPAL : What could have another Petlawad was averted in the Kolar area where a truck laden with 306 LPG cylinders caught fire near a petrol pump in Beema Kunj area on Tuesday morning at around 10.40 am. However the alert truck driver immediately detached the cabin of the truck from the rest of the body so the cylinders could not catch fire.

The truck driver raised an alarm, hearing which the petrol pump employees rushed to the spot and pushed the truck back some 70-80 feet and thereafter, with the help of fire extinguishers from the pump, doused the fire.

In the meantime fire tenders reached the spot following the information and doused the fire completely.

TI Kolar Anil Shukla said the incident took place on Tuesday morning when a truck bearing registration number MP 09 CE 8526 carrying 306 LPG cylinders of Rai Gas Agency from Bhauri Bakaniya was going to deliver them in Bairagarh Chichli. As the truck crossed Sarvadharam Bridge and reached near a petrol pump at Beema Kunj the truck driver saw smoke was emanating from cabin of truck, following which he stopped the truck. As he got down from the vehicle, flames started leaping from the engine, subsequent to which, with the help of the locals he pushed the truck back and controlled the fire.

The cabin of the truck was detached from the rest of the body. Soon fire tenders of BMC reached the spot acting swiftly on the information and doused the fire hence the flames could not spread.

However, the exact reason that led to the fire in the cabin of truck could not be ascertained till the filing of the report. The police are investigating the case.
