Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A woman and her sons were found dead in a well in Tikamgarh district late on Sunday night, police said on Monday.

The incident took place in Bhelsi village under Khargapur police station of the district. According to information, the woman identified as Bharati, 25 went missing from home along with her three sons identified as Brajgopal, 6, Harichandra, 3 and Akash, 1.

According to police, the woman's husband Nand Kishore Kushwaha had lodged a complaint late on Sunday evening that his wife and three children were missing from home since morning. Following his complaint, police registered a missing persons complaint and started searching.

“During search, Kushwaha and other villagers peeped into a well situated near their house. They spotted all four bodies floating. On getting information, a police team was sent to spot and bodies were fished out,” said a police officer.

Tikamgarh Superintendent of Police Prashant Khare said that preliminary investigation suggested that the woman was mentally unstable. “Her family members told us that she was mentally unstable and was undergoing treatment by doctors from Jhansi Medical College,” Khare said. He, however, didn’t rule out the possibility of foul play.
