BHOPAL : A theatrical group from Palestine will be in the city next month to highlight the trials and tribulations of the state-less people of their country. The 22-member group, which is on a tour of India, will present the tragedy of the Palestinians before the denizens of the city.
The group will stage a play in the open-air auditorium of Rabindra Bhawan on December 20. It will meet the local Press and interact with the theatre personalities of the city the next day, besides staging street plays in MP Nagar and other areas.
A meeting was held at the Mayaram Surjan Bhawan on Tuesday in connection with preparations for the visit.
Among others, CPM MP Suhasini Ali spoke at the meeting. In her speech she highlighted the pain of the Palestinians, who are facing unwarranted attacks and persecution from Israel, which enjoys the complete backing of the US. A presidium comprising well-known poet Rajesh Joshi, former vice chancellor Uday Jain, litterateur Afaq Ahmed and journalist LS Herdenia presided over the meeting. Addressing the gathering, the speakers said that the Palestine problem is rooted in the imperialist policies of the United States of America, which wants to divide the Arab world. The Palestinians deserve the support of the entire world in their endeavour to have a nation of their own.
