BHOPAL : Agitating school teachers were arrested after their talks with officers, include Commissioner, School Education failed. School teachers, under the banner of Azad Adhyapak Sangh have been agitating for fulfillment of their two main demands merger of their services with school education department and benefit of 6th pay commission report. High Court has already asked the teachers to resume duty.

Earlier, a delegation of office-bearers went to the Directorate of Public Instruction for a meeting with commissioner and other officials regarding their fulfillment of the demands but the talks failed. The 15 office-bearers of the organisation were immediately arrested. Heavy police force was deployed at DPI office (Chetak Bridge). However, the Association is adamant on its proposed rally on Friday. State government has not given any permission for the rally.

Last week, the teachers were arrested from Yadgar-e-Shahjahani Park when they were demonstrating for the fulfillment of the demands.

As per the Azad Adhyapak Sangh, school teachers are government by the three departments–School Education, Urban Development Administration and Panchayat department. Therefore, they are demanding the merger of their services with the school education department. The second demand is 6th pay commission benefits from 2006 with arrears.
