BHOPAL : Mining baron Sudhir Sharma, who had surrendered before the District and session’s court on Friday, has been sent on police remand till July 30 in connection with police constables’ recruitment fraud.
Sharma, interacting with the media at STF office, before leaving for the court said, “I am innocent and soon the true facts about Vyapam scam will come in public domain”.
Earlier, Sharma was produced in the court of CJM Pankaj Singh Maheshwari amidst heavy police security on Saturday. He was sent to police remand till July 30. STF had demanded police remand till August 3.
Protesting the police remand, Defence counsel Pratul Shandilya argued, “When Sudhir Sharma has surrendered and STF had interrogated him earlier many times so there was no need of police remand”.
Secondly, Defence had applied to arrest Sudhir Sharma in Sub-Inspectors’ recruitment fraud too at the same time as Sharma has surrendered and STF had not arrested him. CJM Pankaj Singh Maheshwari rejected the application stating that as STF will arrest as and when it needs to. Prosecutor Udai Raghuvanshi said, “Defence cannot force STF, which is the investigating agency, to arrest anyone”.
STF DSP DS Baghel, interacting with media in the court premises, said, “Sudhir Sharma whom STF had taken in custody, was produced in CJM court and has been sent on police remand till July 30 in police constables’ recruitment fraud. Sharma had facilitated selection of six candidates in constables’ recruitment”.
Sharma is also involved in Sub-Inspectors’ scam and he allegedly helped four candidates pass the recruitment test. He is likely to be involved in PMT and Milk federation scams and as STF had taken him on police remand so STF will definitely investigate his role in other recruitment and admission fraud in Vyapam scams.
