BHOPAL : The State government will give Smartphones to 1.55 lakh students enrolled in under-graduate courses in government colleges in Madhya Pradesh this year through MP Electronics Development Corporation.

A proposal in this regard will be tabled in cabinet meeting slated to be held on Tuesday, said officials.

As per poll promise made by BJP at the time of Assembly elections, the government has decided to purchase smart phones and provide them to students instead of giving them cash.

“It was decided to purchase Smartphones instead of giving cash to students getting admission in first year this year after much contemplation,” said officials.

The cabinet will decide the agency. The department has proposed to engage the electronic development corporation for this task. Only students getting admission in government colleges will be given the phone at present.
