Bhopal: Seven families were displaced on Sunday by teams of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) from Ahata Rustam Khan and Pratap Nagar for construction of the smart road connecting the polytechnique square and Bharat mata square. The families affected by the displacement were shifted in a nearby transit camp.
The road is built under the smart city mission by the Bhopal Smart city development corporation limited (BSCDCL). As many 300 houses are to be razed and affected the families are to be shifted for the construction of the road. The locals however staged a protest citing the guidelines of the supreme court as per which the displacement should not be done in rains.
However, the BMC and district administration said that the residents were shifted as they have already been provided accommodation. However, the displacement has thrown up an ordeal for the families as the new transit houses, given to the residents of Pratap Nagar, lacks approach road. The area is surrounded by kuccha ways.
Local corproator Shabista Zaki questioned that how would the civic body provide houses to all the families. She said that only 60 transit houses are available with the smart city while over 300 families have to be shifted. She also said that the SC guidelines restrict shifting during rainy season but the civic body is bent on flouting rules.
