Simhastha 2016 – Artist who made Bharat Mata idol denied full payment

BHOPAL : Bharatiya Janata Party, which swears by “Bharat Mata” at every public function has yet to make full payment for a 51-feet high idol of Bharat Mata made by artist Anup Dey for Simhastha 2016 in Ujjain.

The party had asked the artist to make the idol in Simhastha 2016 for which he spent Rs 6 lakh but he has not received full payment for this. Out of this, the artist has received only Rs 4 lakh.

Anup Dey told Free Press that he had obtained the work contract through MPTDC chairman Tapan Bhomick . ‘‘BJP leaders told me to make a 50-feet high idol of Bharat Mata standing on lotus. I told them it will cost of Rs 6 lakh. They agreed to give the amount. But later, they refused.”

He further said “Even after completing the work on time, they first gave me Rs 3 lakh. I got Rs 1 lakh more later.  But when I went to ask for my full payment, BJP general secretary Ajay Pratap Singh said state BJP president Nandkumar Singh Chauhan has cancelled the payment. So we can’t do anything.”

 According to Dey, he had called 18 labourers from Kolkata.  He had brought all materials including clay and colours from Kolkata. He said he made payment to labourers from his pocket.

I don’t know how much amount the artist was to get but he got the full payment. – MPTDC chairman, Tapan Bhowmick
