BHOPAL: Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, who contested assembly elections from Vidisha and Budhni constituencies, is confident of his victory from both seats. According to sources, Chauhan has decided that after declaration of election results, he would resign from Budhni seat and continue as MLA from Vidisha constituency.
In the last lap of election campaigning in Vidisha, Chauhan had given a clear hint to the party workers on the eve of the polling day that he would retain Vidisha seat. Chauhan had decided to contest from Vidisha seat as there was no local leader capable enough to overcome the factionalism in the party.
Even Chauhan had to face several problems due to factionalism and his wife Sadhna Singh took charge of election campaigning there.A senior BJP leader said that former finance minister Raghavji had put a condition for not working against the BJP in the elections from Vidisha. His condition was that either his daughter Jyoti Shah be given ticket or Chauhan contest from Vidisha seat. The party had to accept his condition.
Chauhan has decided not to surrender Vidisha seat after election declaration as under present circumstances, the BJP is not in a position to win bye- polls from here. As far as the Budhni seat is concerned, Chauhan thinks it will be easier for the party to score a victory in bye- elections. This is the reason why he would surrender Budhni seat.Chauhan has also apprised the BJP organisational leaders about his decision.
