BHOPAL : Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, who is Chairman of Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Bank and Vishwas Sarang, who is Chairman of Madhya Pradesh Laghu Vanopaj Sangh, would step down from their posts in the coming week. As per Cooperatives Amendment Bill, an MLA cannot continue as Chairman of any cooperative institution. The said Bill has been sent to Governor Ram Naresh Yadav’s consent after which it would be become a law. With the amendment coming into force, Shekhawat and Sarang, who have become MLAs, will have to go. Election process for the post of new Chairman has even started in Laghu Vanopaj Sangh. Sarang, could not contest election for Chairman as he has been elected as MLA. Shekhawat would also have to step down with the amended Bill coming into effect. Lokayukta had also submitted charge-sheet against Shekhawat for committing irregularities in giving of loan to Manda Thete, who is wife of IAS officer Ramesh Thete. After Shekhawat’s removal, election for new Chairman would take place in the Bank.
