Seven booked for dowry harassment

BHOPAL: The Gautam Nagar police have registered a case of dowry harassment against the husband and in-laws of a woman on the charge of dowry harassment. Police said that Sarita Kushwaha, a native of Nishatpura in her complaint stated that she got married with Devendra Kushwaha, resident of Bazaria area in June 2011. Three years after the marriage, her husband and in-laws started beating her up demanding dowry. After she lodged a complaint with Mahila Thana, they were counselled and a compromise between the couple was reached. However Devendra against started harassing her, demanding a motor-cycle and Rs 60,000 from her parents. When she did not fulfill their demand, they threw her out from her house and then she was living with her parents for the past 7 months. The police have registered a case under section 498 A of IPC and ¾ of Dowry Act against husband Devendra, mother-in-law Vimla Bai, father-in-law Shyamlal and brother-in-law Rajesh while no arrest was made by the police. In a similar incident the Nishatpura police have registered a case on three persons on charges of harassment of a woman for dowry. According to police Saeeda Bi, 27, wife of Anas Ali, resident of Lal Quarter, behind High School Karond, in her complaint levelled charges of harassment for dowry on her husband Anas Ali, her sister-in-laws Laeeka and Hina.
