BHOPAL: Aam Admi Party (AAP) has described the Madhya Pradesh government’s contract of Rs 10,000 crore with Lanco Power Limited, Hyderabad, as “illegal” as government itself had blacklisted the company. AAP said that there is surplus power in MP, then why such contract was signed. AAP has demanded scrapping of the contract and take Rs 600 crore back from the company. Otherwise, public will be have to bear financial burden of Rs 10,000 crore within 25 years.
AAP state head Alok Agrawal said, “Madhya Pradesh Government had black listed Lanco Power Limited, Hyderabad on February 14, 2012 stating Lanco breached the contract for its own benefits. But again the government signed contract with company for purchasing power on November 26, 2012. It is surprising that contract was signed on November 26, 2012 and the tag of black listed company was removed on November 30, 2012.”
As per the previous contract, electricity tariff was Rs 2.35 per unit for next 25 years but as per the new contract, rate is increasing. Last years, power tariff was Rs 4 per unit. In the years to come, tariff will go up in Madhya Pradesh, Agrawal said, adding, “Lanco purchases 200 crore unit power every year and so far government paid Rs 600 crore. Still state is purchasing costly electricity.”
