Bhopal: It may sound filmi, but it is true. After a jockey aspirant Sanya Acharya along with the other 20 interviewees were rejected by three radio stations in a row for the job of radio jockey’s- she said to hell with it, and went on to launch her own radio station! Of course, it is not a radio station you can tune in to on your transistor set. You have to have access to Internet to listen to Sanya Ka Radio – the first Instagram live radio station that completed 100 days on Friday.
The radio show focuses on various current issues Monday through Friday from 11 to 11.45 at night. It is getting good response and besides Madhya Pradesh, it has listeners from Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Bengaluru and even Bangladesh and Thailand. About her journey, Sanya, who hails from Bhopal and has done her bachelor’s in business administration from the Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS), told Free Press, “Though I have not taken any formal training in radio jockeying but singing has been my passion since childhood.
I got introduced to a radio jockey’s job during my association with BSS Rhythm – a radio station run by the BSSS students. I did internship with Red FM and have been anchoring an AIR Bhopal show Yuvvani for over a year and half now. “After completing my graduation, I took a drop and started giving auditions for RJ jobs but every time I was turned down. After many rejections, I decided to launch my own radio show. I am in love with my name so I decided to call it Sanya ka Radio,” said Acharya, who is also associated with Ansh Happiness Society.
“I started the radio show alone but now we are a four-member team, Prem, Sanghmitra Gupta, Siddhartha Jain and I,” the anchor added. The RJ said, “It is the first live Radio show on Instagram. It is a radio without boundaries. People from across the world join us and can share what they wish to. Our aim is to entertain people, to promote artists and to reach our voice to the peop le. I chose Instagram because it is a platform where young persons are more active.
“We have different programmes for different days like Monday Music, Tuesday Artist, Wednesday Wisdom, Thursday Shayrana, Friday Chatar-Patar, and Saturday Retro. Besides, we also talk on current issues. We run it from my home and those on Instagram can join us,” the social activist said. She said, “We are getting a good response from listeners across the world, especially from Indore and Mumbai. We have also received feedback from actors like Apoorva Shah.”
“I get complete support from my parents. My father is a retired banker and my mother is a homemaker. Initially my parents wanted that I should pursue PG but now they are happy and feel proud when their friends tell them Aapki ladki kitna achchaa bolti hai…” In fact, some of them asked me to do anchoring at their family functions,” Acharya said with a big smile.
